But seriously.
The problem with always looking for the best deal means you rarely get what you are looking for right away. N and I have been in the market for a new couch now that we have moved into our larger apartment. Since we got married we had nothing but our loveseat for ourselves and guests to relax on. Not to dis the loveseat- While it may be old and not quiet big enough for 2 people to recline on for more than 5 minutes, it is extremely comfortable to sit on. If you don't mind being curled up a bit, it also makes a great napping spot. But I digress. We really wanted some more seating.
So, after browsing online for a bit we found one we liked, but not being able to sit on it before hand was a big deterrent. Plus, if we didn't like it we either had to go through the trouble to trying to sell it, or figure out how to return it. But....the price was right. Before making a decision, I looked a little more into used furniture on craigslist. The prices were better still and we contacted a few sellers, but with no luck because we had a winter storm. So, sofa hunting was put on hold.
A few nights ago I got on craigslist again to see if any good deals had been posted since I looked last. I was getting impatient. That happens sometimes as a thrifter. There is a point at which if you are always looking for the best deal, it will never come. I came across one that was the right style (a microfiber sectional with a couch and chaise), but was a different color than we had been looking at. Honestly, because the lighting in the photo was so bad I thought it was gray (it was actually a light chocolate brown). So, I contacted the seller that evening and somehow ended up going over to look at it right away. It was really comfortable, and in great condition. Despite being 6 years old (what!?), it looked great. All it needed was to be cleaned. So, after shelling out around $400 ($200 less than the one new online) we headed home with plans to pick up our sectional over the weekend. As we were on our way home I got a call from the seller asking us if we could come back and get it that night after all (we had driven our truck, just in case). So we did. And in exactly 3 hours from the time I had contacted the seller, we had our couch home.
All in all it was a pretty hilarious and strange experience.
So. Much. Seating! |
