Big News!

I am a scholarship donor at 20! No I didn't suddenly become a millionaire, I am sending someone in Uganda to high school! For only $35/mo I can give someone an education. I won't know who it is because they send it all over in bulk, but in a way that is sort of nice because if for some reason I can no longer be a sponsor I am not taking away from any one person. I am so happy that I am getting to do this. I have been wanteing to do something like this for a long time, but either didn't have the finances, or just didn't feel like it was something I could do, or not the right ministry for me, ect. I am doing this through Invisible Children, a non-profit that I have supported since high school. They are not technically a Christian organization, but they are ending the longest running war in Uganda and saving lives. They have an incredible program and I am so glad that I can be a part of it in some small way. By giving to their Legacy Scholarship Program, I can pay for someones tuition. Education is huge in Uganda. It is something that they value greatly. Many people are unable to attend school after primary grades, because it is no longer free. Giving someone that truly desires an education the opportunity is incredible. So I can't get a few coffees, or buy all the random crap I don't need. I am giving someone a livelihood that can change their life forever. One of the Ugandans that came to speak to us is a mentor to students. She said, "when you give one person an education, you are not just educating one person. You are educating a whole family and their descendants. Because when you educate someone you are giving them a livelihood and the means to education their children and their children, ect" (I don't know if that is an exact quote but it is pretty close). I value education a lot, so being able to give it to someone else is such a great feeling. If you are interested in donating, you can go here. It is $35/mo to support a high school student and $65/mo to support a university student. You can do it for a long as you wish, and can always call the office if you decide not to continue. It takes it right out of your credit card account, so you don't have to worry about sending a check every month or anything like that. Which is great for me! Oh! and another cool thing, when you become a sponsor, you get a big, awesome booklet, 2 dvds, and a t-shirt made with organic Ugandan cotton for free. =)
